2 for $20: LJ’s Pizza still going strong after 35 years

LJ’s Pizza Restaurant offers a full menu of pizzas, sandwiches and pasta, but the Mesa eatery is best-known for its all-you-can-eat pizza buffet, available at lunch on weekdays ($8.50) and dinner on Saturdays ($9.50).
The mood: LJ’s has been tossing pizzas since 1973, and the restaurant looks mostly unchanged since that time, save for three-and-a-half decades of collected memorabilia and photos.
We check in at the hostess station and, although the lunch crowd has thinned out, are assigned one of the numbered tables. After going through the buffet, we find our seats. A server arrives to take our drink order.
The food: The menu boasts of more than 23 kinds of thin-crust pizza for the buffet, but only about 10 are available during our 30-minute visit, including sausage and jalapeño, ham and pineapple, pepperoni and mushroom, vegetable and taco. There’s also an 18-item salad bar that’s included in the buffet price.
