The five-second rule apparently is in effect at Flaming Kabob, which tied for top dishonors on this week’s list of worst East Valley restaurant health inspections.
The restaurant, 2252 E. Baseline Road, Mesa, was flagged for seven major violations, including this doozy: “Staff noted dropping bread, picking up bread from floor with bare hand (and) proceeding to assemble sandwiches.”
If they do this in front of a county inspector, it makes me wonder what happens when an inspector isn’t watching.
Other violations included not washing those sandwich-making bare hands, “heavy organic buildup” on soda fountain and a soiled lid on ice machine. Oh, yeah — and a live cockroach found in the food-prep area.
No better was Four Seasons Sushi, 1652 N. Higley Road, Gilbert, whose seven major violations included the staff making sushi rolls with bare hands and improperly stored raw fish dripping on salad ingredients. Oh, yeah — and a live cockroach found in the food-prep area.
Other top offenders this week are Abuelita’s Kitchen and Club Cabo in Mesa and China Garden in Gilbert (five violations each).

Way to go Jess!! There’s plenty of room on my soapbox for both of us to shout out against filthy restaurants!

Jess: Thanks for the info.
I have been to flaming kabob many times and never have I seen anything I didnt like. The owner who always comes and greets me and my family with a big smile is always making sure his staff is in check. So I highly doubt that this so called staff member that picked up the bread is from his regular staff. I have personally seen him telling his employees to throw something out just becouse it touched the counter so I highly doubt that he would let his staff keep something that touched the floor. Plus there is gloves everywhere. I am in there almost once a week and never have I seen a single bug. Plus every restaurant gets at least one bug accidentaly. That doesnt mean that they dont take care of the issue. I mean things happen no one asks for bugs they just come. As far as I know Flaming Kabob is one of the greatest restaurants here in the East Valley.
Wow , pretty suprised to hear that i have been eating there since 2006 and have never had a problem as a matter of fact i have been there for the close of the store with my family and remeber them cleaning the floors as if it were a hospital. my question is if in fact there was bread that fell on the floor and was picked up to make a sandwich why on gods green earth would the health department offical stand there and watch it happen which also leads me to beleive that it never did now falling on the florr and throwing away i can see and then making a sandwich with another piece of bread but using the same one that fell hard to believe that the offical who so called witness this would let that happen and im not saying it okay but im from the east coast and a roach anywhere sucks , but out here they are everywhere and if they have drains im guessing thats where they came from ; again not saying it right but saying its not like back in new york where they are in places that are dirty out in az they are everywhere . actually kind of surprise by this article and and it will not change the way i feel i understand in the concept of reporting on things like this but @ some point we just need to realize the diffrence on reporting and bullying, not to sure you might not have a few roaches out in your back yard or kitchen hope they fix all of the violations but be sure of one thing i will be there tonight and will not have anyone change the way i feel about anything weather its government , where i go at night where i eat or how i do it feel free to contact me my email is there look forward to it have a great day to all who read this
I eat there all the time and I dont see anything out of the ordinary. I know the chef in the back and at the time he was training still. The report made it seem that he used the same bun that fell on the floor to use as a sandwich to give to the customer. What really happened is the bun did fell on the floor and he did pick it up and threw it in the trash. It’s funny how they left that out. I wonder if it was some american chain like mcdonalds or whatever if they would even bring that up. As far as the roaches, blame the terminator. They have a professional terminator to take care of pests. Anyways, awesome food and whoever had not eaten there before should give it a try, it is great!
Thanks
oooooooohhhhhh please give me a break I have been eating at the flaming kabob since they opened and I have been to all three of their locations and I have met the owner many many times I always bring my family and friends in to eat and I’m also a pharmaceutical rep and also get all my food from the flaming kabob for the medical offices I work with. I have also met and dealt with the owner personally many times and I know for fact that all statements stated above are false how you ask people please use you common sense you really believe that the health department would actually be witness to there being a roach in the prep area and not take immediate action and yes the staff member could have possibly dropped bread on the floor and have thrown it away but this article makes it seem that the staff member used that bread to make a Sandwich I highly doubt that the health inspector would stand there and watch such a thing, I have seen how hard the brain washes people, by twisting thoughts facts ideas and ect. I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m going to continue supporting the flaming kabob in every way possible because I know the owner and his family and I can honestly say that they are hard working people however it seem that mr.jess harter has nothing better to do with his time and people don’t forget believe nothing hear and only half of what you see!!!!!!!!!!
There seems to be a common thread here [aside from the lack of proper grammar] ….. folks, a lot goes on in restaurants that are never seen by patrons …. however, the health inspector walks in, unannounced, and proceeds to do his survey ….. the inspector fills out the report on the spot, and the words contained in it are his ……. since nobody appears to have bothered to actually read the report, the direct link to “Flaming Kabob” is:

—————
The point of the “dropped bun” incident is that the worker did not wash their hands after touching something that came in contact with the floor …… [I do think you missed the point there Jess] ………..
