Aaron May, the larger-than-life chef from Sol y Sombra in north Scottsdale, finally has opened his long-awaited osteria Autostrada.

The new restaurant, also on Market Street at DC Ranch, features simple Italian fare (see lunch menu pdf, dinner menu pdf and wine list pdf) from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. It originally had been scheduled to open last April.

May (pictured at left) has been a busy guy. Beside running his three-year-old Spanish tapas restaurant Sol y Sombra, he opened a breakfast place, Over Easy, last January in east Phoenix.

He’s also working on a Texas hill-country barbecue restaurant, Ice House - one location at DC Ranch and another in the former Pischke’s space in Old Town Scottsdale - and a Basque restaurant, Leche, in Old Town Scottsdale.

Both Ice Houses and Leche also were scheduled to open in 2008, but no opening dates have been set.

Autostrada, 20825 N. Pima Road (Market Street at DC Ranch), Scottsdale is open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Info: (480) 513-2886 or eatatautostrada.com.
