The slumping economy apparently has claimed another notable East Valley restaurant: Streamers Ice Cream Parlor & Grill in Gilbert.

There’s no notice posted at nostalgia-themed restaurant, located next to the Hollywood Theaters in Gilbert Town Square, but the building is dark and locked. The phone number is no longer in service.

Streamers offered a huge menu of soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches and dozens of ice cream desserts.

I am heartbroken that Streamers has closed. It was a favorite of mine and my kids. It had been a tradition to take them their for their birthday lunch or dinner for the last few years - we will definitely miss going there!

The owner kept a great staff of cheerful teens and served a wonderful menu of the highest quality. Streamers was always fun - but the location, once the best thing in town, has been largely competed out of existence. San Tan now draws the largest Gilbert crowds. I hope Tom will reopen somewhere, but it has to be discouraging. Best wishes to them.
