Don’t be thrown off by its unusual moniker — Don Porterhouse is not a steakhouse, but rather a Korean barbecue that’s taken over the Gilbert strip-mall space most recently occupied by Simply Burgers.

Don PorterhouseThe décor — red and silver walls, corrugated steel panels, multi-colored tables and chairs — hasn’t changed, but a charcoal grill now delivers sizzling iron platters of soy-sauce-marinated short ribs, chicken, beef, pork and pork spare ribs ($7.95-$9.95 for lunch, $10.95-$12.95 for dinner).

Meals include a salad with a housemade soy-ginger dressing and bowls of sliced cucumbers and rice.

Other menu offerings include Kickin’ Fried Wings ($10.95), sort of a Korean take on buffalo wings; chop chae ($9.95), a mix of vegetables and meat with clear glass potato noodles; and spicy rice sticks ($9.95), thick rice cake sticks in a hot red bean paste.

Don Porterhouse, 1455 W. Elliot Road, Gilbert, is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Info: (480) 659-4861.
