Canal, the fashion-themed restaurant at SouthBridge in downtown Scottsdale, is starting a “TV dinner” promotion on Tuesday nights. Chef Justin Beckett will offer his takes on ’50s Swanson faves while Canal’s wall of projection screens televise black-and-white classics like “Giligan’s Island” and “Happy Days.”
Beckett’s reinterpretations include:
• Grandma’s meatloaf with panko fried Maui onion rings and morel mushroom pan gravy, green bean almandine, mashed potatoes and kaffir lime-lemon Jell-O;
• Filet mignon beef stroganoff with crème frâiche with watercress and pickled onion salad, parker-house rolls and apple cobbler;
• Country-style fried chicken with pancetta gravy, cauliflower-celery root gratin, peas and carrots, and chocolate chip bread pudding;
• Cider-brined and roasted turkey breast with herbed pan jus, broccolini with cheese sauce, classic stuffing and cranberry cupcake with cream cheese frosting;
• Beer batter fish ‘n’ parmesan garlic fries, creamed spinach, chipotle-corn on the cob and double chocolate brownie with rainbow sprinkles; and
• Spaghetti and meatballs with balsamic roasted tomato sauce, cheesy garlic bread, grilled baby artichokes and peaches with cream.
