Luc’s updates menu, replaces tapas bar with sushi bar

Luc’s, the upscale restaurant that opened last summer at el Pedregal in north Scottsdale, is making more changes.
When I reviewed Luc’s last fall, I raved about its intriguing menu, which featured roughly equal parts French, Asian and Southwestern influences. It made my list of top 10 new restaurants of 2007, as well as that of my counterpart at the Arizona Republic.
Late last year, though, owners Cliff Skoglund and Robert Hall decided to add more Asian dishes, bringing in chef German Sega to replace Eric DiStefano.
Now, the owners again have updated the menu (see dinner menu pdf, dessert menu pdf) to focus solely on Sega’s Asian cuisine. They’ve also replaced the restaurant’s tapas bar, which had a wood-fired pizza oven, with a sushi bar (see sushi bar menu pdf).
I’m going to miss some dishes, such as the leek-stuffed ravioli appetizer and the seven spice pork tenderloin. (The latter was one of the tastiest things I had all last year.) But I’m looking forward to trying some of the new ones.

I have to say I am disappointed with the menu changes. I know sushi is popular and I am one of the few who do not enjoy that or fish/seafood in general. When I was in town in March, I was sad to see there was no more mac and cheese or tenderloin. Which I agree with yo is on of the most fantastic meals I have had. I’ve been looking forward since then to my favorite, french onion soup pizza. I tell everyone about it and sadly, when I arrive this week, I am not sure if Luc’s will be on my menu of places to eat at.
