Steve Short, owner of well-regarded Phoenix restaurant Basis, has opened another stylish New American restaurant, Bar Tepo, at Dana Park in Mesa.

Bar Tepo, which opens today on the northwest corner of Baseline Road and Val Vista Drive, features gourmet sandwiches, burgers, tacos and entrees.

Among the more interesting menu items (see dinner menu pdf): brown sugar Hoisin chicken tacos ($10), a lobster burger ($16), Maryland crab-crusted sunfish ($23) and a pork chop stuffed with pancetta and pepperjack ($20).

The wine list (see drinks menu pdf) features nearly 50 varieties, available by the glass or bottle. Glasses range from $6 to $19.

Bar Tepo, 1652 S. Val Vista Drive, Mesa, is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Short says he’ll stay open later on Fridays and Saturdays for awhile to see if there’s a demand for extended hours.

Info: (480) 633-0155.

Will Bar Tepo remain open as a bar at night? Or is this wishful thinking?

Bar Tepo is outrageous! I had the lobster burger and my girlfriend had the seared alaskan halibut. Their wine list is extensive- We were referred to this restaurant by the concierge at our hotel. This was our first trip to AZ from the east coast. Beautiful weather in AZ and wonderful people.

Just had the burrata blt - in a word, amazing. Love that we can call this swanky place all ours in Mesa - about time! Very excited about the new developments taking shape at Dana Park!

Absolutely fantastic dining! Their food is so unique and beautifully presented. The service was wonderful and the people were so kind. I loved the young staff that were attending my table. They’re fun and genuinely kind people. A young man named Jeremy was able to give my husband and I a few recommendations based on our cravings, and his suggestions were impeccable.
    Top shelf, I’m very impressed.
